HUD SUBSIDIZED HOUSING
HUD'S
PUBLIC HOUSING PROGRAM
This site explains what public housing is, describes how to qualify for
public housing assistance, how to apply, how long you can stay in public
housing and more.
(NOTE: HUD bases eligibility on income limits based on
local
median income [lower income = 80% of median income; very low income =
50% of median income)
note: HUD offsets income
with medical expenses that are over 3% of income. Lowered medical
expenses due to the Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage may reduce income
by lowering drug spending. Any reduction in housing assistance will
be more than offset by the value of extra help with drug costs, but will
not lose eligibility for housing assistance. Generally every $1 in
reduced income results in only 30 cents reduction in HUD housing
assistance pay. Most recipients of HUD subsidized housing pay no
more than 30% of their adjusted income for rent.
Fact Sheet on Housing Assistance and the Low-Income Subsidy:
This fact sheet developed by CMS provides information on how the Part D
low-income subsidy may affect those who qualify for housing assistance. |
