Services: promotes compassionate understanding of mental disorders, expanded access to services, and care systems, andhas a speakers bureau to speak for free to businesses and community groups. MHAC also advocates on behalf of individuals who have trouble accessing mental health care.

HIPAA: MENTAL HEALTH PARITY ACT (1996) federal law that may prevent your group health plan from placing annual or lifetime dollar limits on mental health benefits that are lower - less favorable - than annual or lifetime dollar limits for medical and surgical benefits offered under the plan.(e.g., a lower lifetime coverage limit on mental health benefits than on medical and surgical benefits.)  MHPA does not require that a group plan include mental health benefits in thei benefits package, but if they do. MHPA applies to most group health plans with more than 50 workers.  However, MHPA does not prevent an employer for charging a different copay rate than for medical and surgical services or from placing an annual ilimit on the number of visits allowed.
